Sandia National Laboratories (Sandia) is responsible for communicating security-related requirements to its workforce (employees, contractors, and consultants). Members of the Workforce (MOWs) are made aware of their personal security responsibilities in support of Sandia business and national security. See below for information on DOE-required briefings and trainings necessary for various types of access and activities performed at Sandia.
SEC050 Initial Security Briefing
This briefing provides an overview of security responsibilities for all Sandia MOWs prior to receiving an initial DOE security badge and assuming duties or gaining access to Sandia-controlled premises and other U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) facilities.
Required For: Sandia MOWs (cleared or uncleared) who are newly hired, assigned, or transferred to a Sandia site.
The SEC050, Initial Security Briefing handout is provided at the Sandia sites’ badge offices as a reference guide for security responsibilities and identifies points of contact.
SEC100 Annual Security Refresher Briefing
This briefing provides an annual review of current security incidents, trends, best practices, resource information to reinforce understanding of DOE requirements, and Sandia policy for continued or newly acquired access to classified matter, material, or Special Nuclear Material (SNM).
Required For: Sandia MOWs who have been granted or pending a clearance and have completed the SEC150, Comprehensive Security Briefing.The SEC100 Annual Security Refresher Briefing is available through Sandia’s online TEDS training utility on the internal network. - SEC100, Annual Security Refresher SON (Sandia requires a valid/current email on file to receive credit for the training)
- This link will require MOWs to input the email they had provided Sandia in order to receive credit. If they do not know what email was provided, MOWs should call Security Connection at 505-845-1321 or complete the SEC100 pdf below.

- The SEC100 pdf completion record must be submitted to securityed@sandia.gov or faxed to 505-844-7802. Older versions of SEC100 pdf will not be accepted.
Failure to complete SEC100 by the required due date will result in an individual’s badge being deactivated until at least 24 hours after the briefing has been completed.
SEC150 Comprehensive Security Briefing
This briefing provides a comprehensive review of security roles, responsibilities, policies, best practices and resource information to ensure understanding of DOE requirements and Sandia policy prior to receiving a cleared badge and initial access to classified matter, material, or Special Nuclear Material (SNM).
Required For: Sandia MOWs who are newly hired, assigned or transferred to a Sandia site who are granted or pending a clearance.
The SEC150 Comprehensive Security Briefing is a live four-hour, site-specific, briefing at the Sandia New Mexico (SNL/NM) and California (SNL/CA) sites. New clearance applicants will receive an email from TEDS Training to enroll. Applicants who can’t attend a live SEC150 briefing may contact securityed@sandia.gov to make other arrangements.
SEC180 Vault & Vault-Type Room (VTR) Training
This training is to provide VTR users, Manager of VTRs, and VTR Custodians with program requirements and responsibilities associated with these higher security facilities at Sandia National Laboratories.
Required For: VTR managers, custodians & program authorized users (PAUs).
The SEC180 Vault & Vault-Type Room (VTR) Training is available through Sandia’s online TEDS training utility on the internal network. For access to this training, please coordinate with your point of contact for the VTR you are visiting.
SEC225 Security Termination Briefing
This briefing emphasizes the individual’s continuing responsibility not to disclose classified information to which they have had access, and the obligation to return all wholly or partially classified documents and materials in the individual’s possession. This briefing also covers the penalties for noncompliance.
Required For: Sandia MOWs who no longer need their clearances, will be on a leave of absence for 90 working days or longer, or terminate their relationship with Sandia.
The DOE F 472.12, SEC225 Security Termination Statement and Security Termination Briefing is provided upon termination of Sandia-owned clearances. MOWs must sign the Security Termination Statement and retain the Security Termination Briefing (SEC225). See Administrative Termination/Request Withdraw section for processing MOW clearance terminations.
SEC301 Classified Matter Training
This course is designed to increase the individual’s understanding of policies, procedures, and practices for handling and protecting classified matter.
Required For: Sandia MOW with a Q-clearance, and L-cleared individuals identified by their SNL Manager.

Credit will be given when the course material is reviewed and the end of course test is completed with an 80% score or higher. See test instructions for more information.
SEC303 Classified Marking Training
This course is designed to provide the individual with the fundamental rules for marking different types of classified matter, detailed tutorials outlining required marking and helpful resources to use when marking more complex files.
Required For: Sandia MOWs who create classified matter, documents, cyber media, or materials and have completed the SEC301, Classified Matter Training.

CUI-100DE Overview of Controlled Unclassified Information (CUI)
This training is a Department of Energy (DOE) one-hour required course designed to familiarize the audience with the requirements found in DOE Order 471.7 regarding use and protection of Controlled Unclassified Information (CUI). Course content for CUI-100DE was developed by the National Training Center (NTC) for the DOE and is not Sandia-specific.
