Biography

Russell has worked at Sandia since 2001. He is currently a Principal R&D Scientist/Engineer in the Radiation Effects Theory department. Russell develops and applies radiation transport codes such as the Integrated Tiger Series (ITS) and the Neutron-Gamma Energy Transport (NuGET) for applications of interest to Sandia. He was the Principal Investigator for the NuGET code development team for approximately a dozen years, and he currently works as code developer and analyst with the ITS code development team. Russell is active in the international reactor dosimetry as the U.S. Symposium Chair of the International Symposium on Reactor Dosimetry.

Education

Russell earned a B.A. in Physics with a minor in Mathematics from Hendrix College (Conway, Arkansas) in 1996. He earned a M.S. in Heath Physics from Texas A&M University (College Station, Texas) in 1998 defending a thesis titled “Energy deposition spectra of simultaneous electron emissions from low energy protons.” In 2001, Russell earned a PhD in Nuclear Engineering from Texas A&M University with a dissertation titled “Radiation effects on the cell-cell communication of mammalian cells.”
