Time is money
A Sandia team has designed a time- and money-saving improvement to the ordering process used at the Labs to procure small-value, commercially-available goods and services directly from Sandia suppliers. Their idea was one of three winners of the third annual internal competition held by Sandia’s Fueling Innovations team.

Dave Clovis awarded Defense Meritorious Service Medal
In February, Sandia engineer and U.S. Navy Reserve Cmdr. Dave Clovis was awarded the Defense Meritorious Service Medal for distinguishing himself by exceptionally meritorious achievement as an engineer for a Joint Task Force operation.
Praising Sandia’s culture of innovation
Sandia hosted its annual Innovation Celebrations in Livermore and Albuquerque May 16 to recognize the Labs' innovators. The celebration honored individuals who received patents, copyrights or licensed royalties, or created other intellectual property in 2018.
Kyle Fuerschbach earns 2019 Kevin P. Thompson Optical Design Innovator Award
Sandia engineer Kyle Fuerschbach has been named the 2019 Kevin P. Thompson Optical Design Innovator Award recipient by the Optical Society. The award recognizes significant early-career contributions to lens design, optical engineering or metrology.
Building health through better buildings
Sandia is the first corporate campus to receive the new Building Health Leadership Award, which recognizes its Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design v.4 Campus effort. Sandia is the largest DOE site named a LEED v.4 Campus.
Forbes names Sandia a top large employer for 2019
Three months after being recognized by Forbes as a top workplace for diversity, Sandia has earned another Forbes distinction, this time a spot among the 500 Best Large Employers. According to Forbes, the winners were chosen based on an independent survey of approximately 50,000 U.S. employees who work for companies that employ at least 1,000 people in their U.S. operations.
Experiments at Z Machine earn Gomez research honors
Sandia physicist Matthew Gomez has been awarded the 2019 Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers’ Nuclear and Plasma Sciences Society Early Achievement Award.
Heroux is SIAM fellow
Michael Heroux, senior scientist at Sandia’s Center for Computing Research, has been selected as a fellow of the Society for Industrial and Applied Mathematics. The SIAM Fellows Program honored Mike for research, leadership and building community in software and algorithms for scientific and high-performance computing.
Sandia leader recognized for STEM mentoring
Amy Halloran, senior manager in renewable energy, was recently honored with the annual Women in Technology award by the New Mexico Technology Council. The council gives the award annually to outstanding women making a difference in STEM fields in the state. Amy was recognized specifically for her work mentoring numerous professional women who work in STEM fields in program management.
