Sandia flexes science, fun at Family Day NM

GRAB A TOOTHBRUSH — Families gather in awe as vibrant elephant toothpaste erupts at Family Day New Mexico on Sept. 7. An estimated 15,000 Sandians and their guests attended Family Day.

BALANCE ACT — Audry Enlow, 4, tests a Lego version of the new Kibble Balance, a mass measurement tool in the Primary Standards Lab. She places weights on the device, then watches as it balances itself and estimates weight. All divisions participated to showcase the work of Sandia on Family Day. The event featured more than 90 activities in Tech Areas I, II and IV, Hardin Field and Manzano Mesa Park.

JUMP AROUND — Children spar in a bounce house arena, one of the many bounce houses in the Sandia Fun Zone. Hardin Field and Manzano Mesa Park were transformed into carnivals with cotton candy, popcorn, sno-cones, music and jumping activities for children. About 300 people served as volunteers and essential personnel to run Family Day safely and securely.
