Passing the gavel


PRESIDENTIAL TRANSITION — Sandia’s Deputy Chief Research Officer Basil Hassan, left, passes the American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics presidential gavel to Deputy Labs Director Laura McGill on April 27 at the institute’s Awards Gala in Washington, D.C. AIAA members elected Laura to succeed Basil last year. Laura will serve a two-year term as president of the institute that represents nearly 30,000 individual members from 91 countries and 100 corporate members to advance engineering and science in aviation, space and defense. As immediate past president, Basil will serve on AIAA board of trustees for a year and as chair of the AIAA foundation board for two years.
