Biography
Sterling Olson is a technical staff member in the Water Power Technologies Program at Sandia National Laboratories. Sterling is the lead developer for the open-source and freely available Marine and Hydrokinetic Toolkit (MHKiT). MHKiT is the foremost data processing toolbox for generalized marine energy data processing and analysis. Sterling’s research further includes the open-source current energy converter (CEC) modules in Delft3D and OpenFOAM at benchtop and meso-scale. Sterling has integrated this work into the first-of-its-kind levelized cost of energy (LCOE) optimization software, DTOcean.
Sterling received a bachelor’s degree in nuclear and radiological engineering from the Georgia Institute of Technology. Sterling earned two master’s degrees from the University of New Mexico; one in chemical engineering and the other in mechanical engineering. Additionally, Sterling holds an MBA from the Anderson School of Management at the University of New Mexico.
