Robert Keene
Manager, Solar Thermal Test & Demonstration
Robert Keene is manager of the National Solar Thermal Test Facility (NSTTF), which is operated by Sandia National Laboratories for the U.S. Department of Energy. Robert manages a staff of 25 engineers, technologists and students. His team is responsible for thermal testing operations and demonstration of multiple unique facilities and technologies, such as the solar simulator and two solar power tower installations, including the Generation 3 Falling Particle Pilot Power Plant. His team leads the way in demonstrating technologies that can further decarbonize energy production and the production of high temperature process heat by reaching temperatures of over 1000° C.
With nearly 15 years of experience in engineering, operations and continuous improvement, Robert worked in multiple roles both in industry and across Sandia. His experience is backed by degrees in mechanical engineering, industrial engineering and a Lean Six Sigma Black Belt. Robert leads the operations and maintenance of the NSTTF and aims to develop a CSP plant reliability consortium with industrial partners across the globe.
“Our team at the NSTTF will deploy our knowledge and unique capabilities to make your ideas reality.”
