Biography

Ifeoma Onunkwo is a Senior Member of Technical Staff at Sandia National Laboratories. She has led efforts in network intrusion detection to prevent the spread of malware. She also leads efforts in the delivery of robust Distributed Energy Resource (DER) systems for DOE, Sandia, and commercial stakeholders. She has expertise in vulnerability assessments and penetration tests to assess the current level of DER network security. She has demonstrated vulnerability findings to stakeholders, including the use of emulated DER communication networks. Previously, she led the DER Cybersecurity National Sub-Workgroup on “Data-in-Flight Requirements” involving multiple DER operators and vendors in the US. She leads efforts to research and compare the novel NDN protocol against existing network solutions.
