Biography
Charles D. Robinson is an engineering technologist in the Photovoltaics (PV) and Materials Technology Program at Sandia National Laboratories. He has facilitated photovoltaic module research activities at Sandia’s Photovoltaic Systems Evaluation Laboratory (PSEL) since 2011. His focus is on improvement of characterization methodologies in support of performance modeling for energy prediction, and long-term reliability studies for the DOE’s Solar Energy Technologies Office (SETO), PV industry partners and other PV test labs. Charles specializes in: indoor and outdoor electrical performance characterization; electroluminescent, infrared and ultraviolet imaging; spectroscopic measurements and solar resource instrumentation calibration. Charles has 16 years of energy research experience at Sandia as a data acquisition systems technologist, including eight years at the Z Machine, where he coordinated the arming, charging and firing sequences of the world’s largest and most powerful pulsed accelerator, and where he processed up to 600 data signals daily. Mr. Robinson received a double associate degree in computer and electronics engineering technologies with honors from ITT Technical Institute in 2004. He continuously generates a substantial quantity of experimental data for multiple principal investigators that results in numerous reports, peer-reviewed publications and IEEE conference proceedings.
