Workshop sponsored by the Nuclear Regulatory Commission to include focus on Sandia-developed MELCOR code

A code developed by Sandia for the U. S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) will be the subject of a public workshop being held on June 29, 2021, 01:00 PM to 04:00 PM EST.

The public workshop, sponsored by the NRC, will focus on the non-LWR SCALE/MELCOR source term demonstration project on June 29, 2021, 01:00 PM to 04:00 PM EST. This workshop is part of the agency’s efforts to prepare for safety reviews of non-LWR license applications and is intended to facilitate dialogue on the NRC staff’s approach for source term. The workshop will cover the use of SCALE and MELCOR for modeling accidents for heat-pipe reactors.

MELCOR is a fully integrated, engineering-level computer code developed by Sandia National Laboratories for the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission to model the progression of severe accidents in nuclear power plants. Sandia develops nuclear reactor safety technology in support of the U.S. and international nuclear energy sectors.
