An article on the US EPA website recently noted how the Water Network Tool for Resilience (WNTR), developed by Sandia and EPA researchers, helps communities and utilities prepare for natural disasters.
WNTR is an open source software package designed to simulate and analyze a water distribution networks’ resilience. The software includes capabilities to generate water distribution system models and evaluate resilience, including considering disaster and recovery scenarios.
The tool has been used for multiple state and local scenarios, including for the City and Town of Poughkeepsie, New York, and even the U.S. Virgin Islands.
Research at Sandia related to water security integrates Sandia’s expertise in simulation, resilience analysis, and software development.
