Biography

Nhu (Jessica) Nguyen is a postdoctoral researcher in the Water Power Technologies Program at Sandia National Laboratories. Nhu investigates the performances of marine and hydrokinetic systems through theoretical and numerical modeling (CFD, BEM, and WEC-Sim). Her research area also includes river and coastal modeling for the optimization of marine hydrokinetic system arrays as well as their influences on the surrounding environment.

Nhu obtained her bachelor’s degree and PhD in mechanical engineering from Cornell University and University of Massachusetts-Amherst, respectively. Her graduate research focused on nonlinear behaviors of highly flexible cable dynamics with the applications in mooring systems for offshore platforms such as floating wind turbines and aquaculture structures.
