Sandia has embarked on a Digital Engineering (DE) transformation, introducing practices to reduce timelines associated with problem solving and product realization. It is adding flexibility & agility into the system so Sandia can be adaptive while still ensuring quality.
“Transformation doesn’t mean incremental change but rather, the technology, behavior, and mindset, leading to revolutionary change.”
-Ernie Wilson, DE Transformation Director
Sandia’s Digital Engineering Strategy consists of 4 goals. #1 enable digital engineering adoption, #2 drive knowledge management and product expertise, #3 enable improved design decisions and understanding and #4 efficiently exchange information at Sandia and across the Nuclear Security Exterprise.
Along with the 4 goals described above there are 3 targets identified: Nuclear Security Enterprise, Sandia digital engineering ecosystem and applying digital engineering ecosystem approaches. Using the 3 targets there are 4 enabling levers: workflow processes, interoperable architectures, seamless flow of data and digitally, geographically, and organizationally inclusive. Using these goals, targets, and levers the anticipated outcomes accelerate product realization, reduce risk, minimize error, and empower staff.
