Ryan Kennedy leads the Strategic Foresight capability within the Systems Analysis Group at Sandia National Laboratories, focusing on providing over-the-horizon strategic context, systems analysis, and decision support for Sandia’s portfolio of national security missions. In this role, he assists lab leaders in decision making and strategic planning using applied futures and foresight methodologies.

Previously, Ryan was the Chief Patent Counsel at Los Alamos National Laboratory, where he engaged with senior leadership, inventors, and government stakeholders to design and build a robust and resilient intellectual property portfolio. In addition to portfolio design and management, Ryan also provided strategic counsel on national security and export control matters. Prior to joining the nuclear security enterprise, Ryan was in private practice supporting early stage, venture-backed technology companies in the San Francisco Bay Area. With degrees in physics, philosophy, law, and international taxation, he brings a multidisciplinary view of systems thinking to his work. Ryan is a member of the Association of Professional Futurists, a registered patent lawyer, a Cub Scout leader, and has successfully completed a number of endurance races.
