Biography

I have been doing research on how to make analysts more effective for several years – mostly in the visual search domain by conducting human subjects experiments in what I call “near operational” environments. I’m also increasingly interested in the overlap, and gap, between laboratory-based research and theory and the phenomena we observe in operational and near-operational environments.

Education

PhD in Cognitive Psychology in 1999. Have done work in a large number of domains here at Sandia ranging from Insider Threat, computational cognitive modeling, assessment of neurotechnologies and the future of neurotech, the human side of the IED problem, and the neurophysiology of analogy-making.
