C4 is creating a self-sustaining manufacturing facility approach that will support various Department of Energy (DOE) laboratory missions by catalyzing partnerships to increase commercialization.

Building the Community

Sandia National Labs is engaging with Oak Ridge National Lab’s Manufacturing Demonstration Facility (MDF) to develop a hub and spoke model that builds on the success of MDF (the “hub”) as a materials and manufacturing R&D facility. Leveraging the MDF’s expertise, Sandia will stand up a new facility (the first “spoke”) while documenting the criteria, best practices, and steps necessary for creating a self-sustaining manufacturing facility. This model will be available to partners to inform the development of future spokes across the nation.
