Long-term management aimed at preserving and enhancing the quality of the environment has evolved at Sandia National Laboratories for more than 50 years. Recycling, establishing community environmental partnerships, incorporating sustainable design in new and renovated facilities, and environmental restoration are all integral parts of Sandia’s environmental stewardship.
Sandia also partners with the Department of Energy to improve public participation in environmental issues, such as the implementation of the National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA) and Long-term Stewardship for environmental restoration. Participation in community organizations and committees that have an environmental and planning focus, such as Shared Vision, the Middle Rio Grande Council of Governments, and the Albuquerque Chamber of Commerce, is a key component.
