STEM Day for Girls is an event to celebrate Women’s History Month for students. It’s a day when 4th & 5th graders spend time on the Las Positas College campus where they will participate in three interactive STEM workshops led by women professionals from Sandia National Laboratories, the Tri-Valley branch of American Association of University Women (AAUW) and Las Positas College.

When: March 9, 2024, drop-off at 9:30 a.m. and pick-up at 2:00 p.m.
Where: Las Positas College in Livermore, CA
Audience: 4th & 5th grade girls and gender expansive youth from Livermore, Pleasanton, Dublin, Mountain House, Tracy and the surrounding areas.
Cost: FREE

Workshops:
- Aerodynamic Forces – Learn how forces can affect an objects energy. How can we engineer a way to absorb an objects potential energy?
- Cyber CSI– As a Crime Scene Investigator, you explore a crime scene and solve the crime by decoding secret messages.
- DNA of Living Things – What is DNA? Learn how to extract DNA from strawberries.
After the event, parents may consider taking their child to observe a round of the middle school DOE Science Bowl competition which also takes place at Las Positas College. It’s a great way to expose young scholars to STEM opportunities available to them after elementary school.
