In Case of Emergency

Emergency Management at Sandia

Sandia's Emergency Management Program is responsible for minimizing the effect of an emergency on people, property, and the environment. The program uses proven techniques and equipment, as well as training, drills, and exercises, to ensure the best possible response to emergencies. The program follows National Incident Management System (NIMS) guidance.

Sandia routinely conducts hazards surveys of all significant Sandia facilities or processes to identify quantities and types of hazards, including categories of chemical and radiological materials. In addition, facilities or processes that have been determined to contain hazards capable of generating at least an Alert classification in an emergency undergo a more rigorous hazards assessment.

Sandia works closely with Kirtland Air Force Base and other local, state, and federal agencies, as well as tribal and private organizations such as area hospitals and ambulance services, in times of emergency.
