All mixed up

Magnetic mixing approach creates quite a stir

Researchers use microfluidic devices for testing in bio labs and as micro-reactions cells for chemical sensing and fluid analysis. Microfluids often must be mixed, but scientists have lacked a simple and reliable way to do it. Now, Sandia researcher Jim Martin and his colleagues have developed a new way to mix tiny volumes. Jim calls the approach vortex field mixing. To see a brief YouTube video demonstration and interview with Jim, click here.
